Newspaper reporters tread lightly on compulsive gambling addiction

Websites designed to help people overcome their gambling addiction have recently approached by associate TV producers and reporters in an attempt to obtain information on persons affected by compulsive gambling addictions. In most cases, they are looking for people to come and share how their lives are influenced by local gambling establishments. In most of these cases, people feel fear of embarrassment of family and friends and are therefore not prepared to discuss how their lives were affected.

I was recently approached by bet nightly news. They asked for help to find people who lived within a specific geographic area whose lives were affected by gambling. Out of the five persons that I found, all refused to discuss their situations or allow someone to interview them for fear of recognition.

Through my website I stopped gambling so you can

http://www.istoppedgambling.com/ I have been fortunate to meet people from different backgrounds and to learn about their gambling addiction. They have allowed me to share their stories with others, as long as I can assure them that their names will be kept confidential. Some of these situations I have shared with reporters and producers associated with the hope that the message would reach the politicians.

I spoke with a politician said he tried to pass a law that prevent people with their credit cards that would be to buy lottery tickets and scratch in local supermarkets. At first I thought this was a joke. People who want to get them lottery tickets with or without a credit card. Lawmakers need to see the larger image. Most people who live within 60 miles or less of gambling establishments, are negatively impacted.

It's been about ten years since the Casino opened in the State of Connecticut. People spend more of their money there and not on the local companies and shopping centres. Legislators should be aware that casinos grow in size very quickly due to the amount of money people lose. The amount of money lost to gambling would be used instead, stimulate our economy.

The truth is political leaders love the revenue generated by the casinos. This makes them look good to voters because they don't have to raising taxes. Gives political leaders that the economy is negatively impacted? Based on my knowledge and experience in this field, I predict that in less than five years the devastation caused by gambling establishments will be seen. This can be prevented if people are trained and given the truth about these private addiction.

To speak with reporters, I have also asked why they don't reveal the direct relationship between the amount of growth that has a casino and the amount of money people through gambling losses. They have no answer. The media enjoy reporting for everyone about the one person who wins a million dollars. The media fails to mention that Casinos take in more than one million dollars per day from slot machines only at the same time that they report the winner million dollar. It is this distorted view that people on the road to self-destruction by hoping to win big sends only once.

The operators at gambling establishments are very greedy people. In some States, penny slots were recently introduced as a way to attract seniors and lower income families. They believe that the slots can anyone to play such as those on social security and welfare and not just the rich. The truth is that they don't care who they hurt or how many lives have been destroyed. The only thing I've learned is that all gambling establishments does not discriminate. If you have money, they will gladly take it with a smile.

Mohegan Sun Casino in Casino, CT ran a promotion where they mailed out $ 50 dollar gift vouchers in an attempt to bring people into the casino. In a week I heard from more than fifteen people who actually use these vouchers but anywhere from hundreds to over a thousand dollars lost in just one visit. The casinos know how to attract people. To avoid temptation, compulsive gamblers have asked to be removed from the mailing list. Unfortunately, gambling establishments don't care and will still send you information, but just not as often. During the holiday period, casinos mailed out $ 400 and $ $ 100 vouchers for people to use on one of the gift shops located within their establishment. Since it's the holidays they know gamblers gifts to buy, but once they get the gambler to get back in the casino, they again are addicted. It Is a shame? Or was this just manipulation to get back the gambler?

On the basis of the statistics, gambling addiction is on the rise and the economy is in trouble. Is there a link between the current economy and gambling establishments? When will the politicians step up and help these people? It is up to the people to take a position and hopefully the political leaders will step up and help these people.

I have an extensive background in dealing with compulsive gamblers, friends and family of teenage gamblers and gamblers. I think there are many alternatives for help with the recovery of a gambling addiction. A large percentage of emails I get are of compulsive gamblers looking for alternatives to Gamblers Anonymous and twelve step programs. Programs like these help a number of people each year, but there is a larger percentage that should be an alternative. These are people who I'm trying to achieve.

It is my goal to educate gamblers with options to save them their addiction to help.

Mr. Howard Keith has an extensive background in dealing with compulsive gamblers, family members and friends of teenage gamblers and gamblers.

Mr Keith believes there are many alternatives for help with the recovery of a gambling addiction verses a twelve step program. A large percentage of his emails were of compulsive gamblers looking for an alternative for Gamblers Anonymous and twelve step programs. Gamblers Anonymous also helps a considerable number of people every year but there is not a large percentage of that remains. These are the people that Mr Keith hopes to achieve.

The purpose of Mr. Howard Keith s is to feed them compulsive gamblers with options to save their addiction to help.
